WILD ANGELICAS & THE FEMINIST LIBRARY 3-11th March 2018, HilbertRaum, Berlin

The Helsinki-Berlin based Wild Angelicas join forces with London’s Feminist Library in this exhibition of experimental artworks; performance, sculpture, video,‘game’ and collage.

Wild Angelicas – named after a common and robust plant of damp meadows, ditches and wet woodlands – is an artists group consisting of Maria Duncker, Anne Hiekkaranta, Mimosa Pale, & Niina Lehtonen Braun. For this exhibition they haveproposed a sparkling fountain, installed within an imaginary landscape thatcreates a stage for poetry, performance and public participation. HilbertRaum Gallery offers the Feminist Library a welcome restorative retreat away from the recent struggles caused by London’s gentrification. The library started as a women’s meeting room 42 years ago. The campsite installation attempts to reflect the spirit of its formative years, and to capture some of theDIY essence that still carries on strong today. This collaboration brings together women’s art initiatives from London and Berlin through telling and retelling her-stories with artworks and ephemera, old and new. The artists create a haven in which to reflect on the lineage of women’s action while enjoying a cup of tea, participating in making, reading and sharing their individual and collective experiences.

Feminist Library at HilbertRaum is curated by artist Minna Haukka withparticipants: Astra Blaug (1927-2015), Lisa Carletta, Rachael House, Heidi Kilpeläinen, Eva Megias, Katarzyna Perlak, Emma Thatcher, Sina Sujatha Schwache, Rosalie Schweiker and Maria de Paula-Vazquez.
